Rockers The Melvins attempting to set world record
The Melvins don't do anything fast.
These hard rock outliers prefer to take their time, spawning a whole generation of underground metal bands with their purposeful, deliberate riffing - thrash's inverse - their tunes lumbering forth like massive woolly beasts crawling out of a tar pit
And yet, on their latest trek, (as Melvins Lite, a trio configuration of the band with bassist Trevor Dunn performing with singer-guitarist Buzz Osbourne and drummer Dale Crover as regular members Jared Warren and Coady Willis of Big Business sit this one out) the group is attempting to get into the Guinness Book of World Records by playing the quickest tour of the U.S. ever with 51 shows in as many days in all 50 states (plus one in Washington D.C.)
The tour coincides with the release of The Melvins Lite's new disc, "Freak Puke," an album of rock 'n' roll abstractions whose third tune, "Baby Won't You Weird Me Out," pretty much encapsulates this band's reason for being.
