Lorrie Morgan, Pam Tillis backing each other’s hits

ABC's "Nashville" is a new prime-time drama about an aging country queen trying not to be swept aside by a newcomer.

Pam Tillis and Lorrie Morgan long ago ceded their ground in the real Nashville. But if the TV show inspires new respect for your elders, these two still earn it.

"You have to give us credit for being able to continue in this business that is so cutthroat, that the ones who are still here deserve that respect," Morgan told the Las Vegas Review-Journal years ago, when Taylor Swift was still a preteen.

Both singers had to prove their own merits in the shadow of country Hall-of-Fame fathers, George Morgan and Mel Tillis.

On the "Grits and Glamour" tour, the two women stay onstage together for the entire show, backing up one another's hits and telling stories between songs in a mostly acoustic showcase.
