John Cleese ‘looking forward’ to death, quits film acting
Actor John Cleese said he was quitting film acting and made darkly comic comments on death, The Mirror reported Sunday.
Cleese was at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, where the 74-year-old was promoting his autobiography, “So Anyway…”
When asked about intentions to write a third film after “Fierce Creatures” and “A Fish Called Wanda,” the actor replied, “No, because it is too much hard work.”
The actor made note of the lengthy process of making a film and his age: “I have only got five or six years left and I will be gone — I won’t have to worry about ISIS or Ebola, I am looking forward to it.”
The “Monty Python” star also admitted to no longer watching comedy on TV, and said that after decades in the business, “you really do know most of the jokes.”
Cleese told reporters that writing his autobiography was one of the “most enjoyable” things he’s ever done.
