The Faint performing ‘Danse Macabre’ in its entirety
On "Agenda Suicide," the first song off of The Faint's celebrated 2001 disc "Danse Macabre," frontman Todd Fink sings of de-evolution breathily.
That concept figures prominently in the indie dance group's '80s-minded jams.
Fink's mucho melodramatic microphone affectations and the band's whirring, whizzing, dizzy synth zaps propel the group backward to the days of day-glo leg warmers and parachute pants.
Still, though their sound has its roots in the past, at one point, the band foretold the future: "Danse Macabre," which The Faint are performing in its entirety on their current tour, spawned plenty of imitators in the dance punk boom of a decade ago.
Is it possible to be both born too late and ahead of one's time?
The fact that "Danse Macabre" still sounds relevant suggests so.
