East Coast Eats serves up quick Boston fix
Outside, the sign says East Coast Eats.
Inside, there's no doubt as to the restaurant's East Coast connection -- not with a giant flag hanging on the wall celebrating the Boston Bruins' recent Stanley Cup victory.
Framed mementos of Boston sports landmarks also line the walls, including a plaque commemorating the Red Sox's curse-bursting 2004 World Series win, plus jerseys from Boston Celtics great Larry Bird, Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and gold-medal goalie Mike Eruzione, captain of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" U.S. Olympic hockey team.
And if you catch East Coast Eats' Dave Babiarz in action, his chowdah-thick accent seals the Beantown deal.
East Coast Eats may be all Boston, all the time. But all East Coast types are welcome -- even New Yorkers.
"You know how much Boston and New York hate each other," Babiarz says. "But one thing we share is good food."
East Coast Eats opened in mid-April at a Henderson strip mall at 50 Valle Verde Drive. Babierz and co-owners Spero Demakes and Greg Ajootian figured a menu of "high-quality restaurant food at kind of takeout speed" would appeal to their fellow East Coast transplants.
Customers order from the extensive menu at the counter; cashiers deliver orders to the storefront's 10 tables. And such sandwich staples as Boston's Own Roast Beef and the best-selling Steak Bomb (featuring onions, roasted green pepper, mushrooms and cheese) have been "flying out of here," Babiarz says.
Weekly shipments of fresh seafood -- including soft-shell Ipswich clams, haddock, scallops and shrimp -- arrive Thursdays and "we sell it through the weekend, till it's gone," he notes. "It's usually gone by Sunday."
East Coast Eats is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Wednesdays and 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays.
