DJing keeps Manufactured Superstars on the road
A couple of months ago, I asked Shawn Sabo what it's really like to be a mega DJ-producer.
"It's the best job anybody can dream of. But it's tough," Sabo said. "I don't think people know how hard DJ travel is."
Sabo told me he had just flown from Las Vegas to Atlantic City for a gig, losing a full day to planes, cars and hotels. Then he DJ'd until 4:30 a.m., went to sleep, woke at noon, drove to Newark, N.J., flew back to Las Vegas, rode straight to XS nightclub and played until 4:30 a.m.
"It's an amazing three days, but it's hard to get a lot done. You're basically DJing, sleeping on an airplane or in a car, and boom boom boom," Sabo said.
His DJ duo, Manufactured Superstars, performs again Saturday at Wynn's XS; then on Tuesday at Encore's Surrender for the NHL Awards after-party.
Manufactured Superstars play 250 to 300 shows a year. This summer, they'll do 90 shows. But Sabo said that's nothing compared to the lives of legendary DJs:
"Tiesto has been doing it for the last 12 years."
