Dining Pick of the Week: The Cracked Egg
The Cracked Egg
7660 W. Cheyenne Ave., No. 125, 702-395-7981
Walking into The Cracked Egg, you see a white board listing the day’s specials. You’ll also notice the eatery’s “Best of Las Vegas” dining awards on display, along with its most recent award, from Zagat in 2010. Much of that award winning is because of its breakfast menu, which features everything from basic egg dishes to chicken fried steak to steak and eggs. Egg items are served with a choice of hash browns or seasoned potatoes and toast or coffee cake. There are four varieties of eggs Benedict, including a vegetarian option. The Cracked Egg also offers 10 kinds of scrambles, including a low-fat one, one with egg whites only and a Southwest version. Under “Fresh from the Griddle,” menu items include classic French toast, Tropical French toast (coconut, banana and macadamia nuts), a raspberry-stuffed French toast and a Nutella S’mores version. Hearty eaters will like that there is a Monte Cristo offered. Omelettes are made with three eggs and come with cheese, seasoned potatoes or hash browns and either toast or coffee cake. There are 10 versions to tempt the taste buds, including the El Vaquero, Denver style, Greek and Californian. Lunch items include burgers and french fries, including an open-face chili burger and a patty melt with Swiss cheese. Sandwiches start at about $10 and include the House Original with roast beef and cream cheese on sourdough, a vegetarian croissant, corned beef Reuben, hot pastrami and a hot links sandwich. The Cracked Egg is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The northwest location is at 5570 Painted Mirage Road, No. 140 (702-645-9438).
