Dining Pick of the Week: Ohjah Japanese Steakhouse

Ohjah Japanese Steakhouse

2051 N. Rainbow Blvd., 702-361-8888

When servers bring an order to your table at Ohjah Japanese Steakhouse, you’ll notice it shares something in common with the atmosphere: good presentation. Food is artfully arranged on the plate, and you get to eat it in a stylish, well-thought-out environment. It becomes apparent from looking around that the restaurant spared little expense with its appearance before opening in January. Cherry wood dining furniture, etched glass and a traditional Japanese mural are part of the design, all surrounded by walls painted in a warm red. The main dining room offers 12 tables, and a separate room features six hibachi grills surrounded by seating and manned by chefs doubling as entertainers while preparing orders. Ohjah has an expansive selection of sushi rolls, some with distinctive names, such as the French Kiss (shrimp tempura and crab in a cucumber roll topped with salmon and sweet and spicy mango-tomato salsa) and Rock ‘n’ Roll (salmon, tuna, yellowtail fish, crab stick and avocado wrapped in a cucumber roll with ponzu sauce). For those who don’t care for sushi or sashimi, the menu includes a variety of tempura and katsu dishes, beef short ribs and teriyaki plates. A small selection of Thai dinners also is on the menu, including curry, pad Thai, tom kha kai (chicken coconut soup) and tom yum kai (spicy, sour chicken soup). All entrees include miso soup, salad and white or brown rice. Children’s meals range from filet mignon to shrimp teppanyaki and come with soup, salad, vegetables and choice of fried rice, fried noodles or white or brown rice. Dinner items range from $7.95 to $29.95, with specialty items costing up to $48.95. Desserts include ice cream or banana tempura, cheesecake and mochi, which comes in four flavors: mango, red bean, green tea or strawberry. Ohjah is open from 3 to 11 p.m. daily.
