Dining Pick of the Week: McMullan’s Irish Pub

McMullan’s Irish Pub

4650 W. Tropicana Ave., 702-247-7000

Irish pub enthusiasts are no doubt familiar with McMullan’s. The spacious venue on Tropicana Avenue near The Orleans has a dedicated following for its Tuesday nights Pub Quiz, live music offerings and annual St. Baldrick’s fundraiser, which raises funds for children’s cancer research. Whether you’re a drinker or lover of Irish music, McMullan’s menu alone is reason enough to make the trip. Traditional Irish specialties include Susan’s Scotch Egg ($10), a hard-boiled egg that is wrapped in sausage meat and served with mixed greens, tomatoes, corn relish and Creole mustard dressing. There is also corned beef and cabbage ($14), Grand Irish Reuben ($10.50) and Irish Pie with steak and mushrooms or chicken curry baked in a flaky pie and served with mashed potatoes, peas and gravy for $13. The menu advises diners that the Irish Pie takes 25 minutes to cook, but it is worth the wait. While you’re waiting, sample the homemade crisps (housemade potato chips) that are served with Marie Rose or curry sauce for $4 (both sauces are good, but the curry is especially tasty). The menu also has a variety of salads, burgers and pasta dishes to satisfy any appetite and dining preference. For dessert, be sure to try the Sticky Toffee Pudding ($7.50), a delicious spongey cake covered in toffee sauce and served with whipped cream (and ice cream upon request). McMullan’s is open 24/7.
