Garbage raining into The Pearl at the Palms
Ever rewatch a sci-fi flick that blew minds a decade or so ago but, years later, feels as antiquated as it once did cutting-edge?
That’s the problem with being ahead of the curve — eventually, the times catch up with you.
This happens in music as well.
In the mid-1990s, Garbage was one of the bands that most successfully paired electronic music’s throb and pulse with hard-driving, emotionally volatile alt-rock.
But helping to soundtrack an era makes you forever associated with that era — even when it’s long past.
After a lengthy hiatus, the band returned in 2012 for their first tour in seven years and a corresponding new album, “Not Your Kind of People” that demonstrated Garbage had evolved with the times somewhat via the trance-worthy synth lines of “I Hate Love” and the full-on, dance-floor cratering “Automatic System Habit.”
But, for the most part, Garbage’s return is more about giving former citizens of MTV’s “Alternative Nation” a reason to remember past glories with a band that provided their musical accompaniment.
