You might actually get a seat at the next Gaga, Bennett show

More seats for less symbolism. Sounds like a fair trade.

When Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga teamed up on New Year’s Eve at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, you couldn’t find a more fitting way to fuse the spirits of Vegas past and present on an “Auld Lang Syne” night.

But there were only 2,500 seats for those two shows. You can add about 1,500 more to Friday and Saturday’s return, this time to the Axis theater at Planet Hollywood Resort, easing the frustrations for those who were cut out in December.

Now, choosing your seats, do you want the Tony side or the Gaga side?

Funny thing about the Cosmo shows is that both had their separate musical backing combos on each side of the stage. On your left (as you face the stage) was the 88-year-old Bennett. His solo moments were just as he’s carried on in recent years, letting his voice rest on minimal accompaniment for songs such as “How Do You Keep the Music Playing?” and “For Once In My Life.”

Gaga’s side of the stage — your audience right — was more suspenseful. Would she do a cabaret version of “Poker Face”? Maybe by now, but in December you had to settle for a theatrical rendition of “Lush Life.”

“If you don’t know Cole Porter you should know Cole Porter” she told the younger element.

When they came together, sometimes even using the horn section that just sat and watched a lot of time, you could tell they’ve done enough shows together to get past the novelty phase of their “Cheek to Cheek” album.
