9 movies to look forward to in July — VIDEO
Well, that was rough.
Both “Terminator Genisys” and “Magic Mike XXL” were disappointments at the holiday box office, because apparently there are still some of you who haven’t seen “Jurassic World” and “Inside Out.”
But there are still plenty of movies that should do better — and some that should BE better — over the next few weeks.
Check out these nine movies to look forward to in July:
“Minions” (July 10): Those little yellow mumblers Kevin, Stuart and Bob head to 1960s London, seeking to serve supervillain Scarlet Overkill (voiced by Sandra Bullock), in the animated “Despicable Me” prequel.
“Amy” (July 10): Previously unseen footage and unearthed audio tracks help tell the dramatic rise and fall of troubled singer Amy Winehouse..embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }
“Ant-Man” (July 17): The Marvel Cinematic Universe gets a bit smaller with “Ant-Man,” in which a master thief (Paul Rudd) gains the ability to shrink in size while increasing in strength.
“Trainwreck” (July 17): After years of laughing at monogamy, a magazine writer (Amy Schumer) thinks about settling down with her latest interview subject (Bill Hader) in this comedy from director Judd Apatow.
“Mr. Holmes” (July 17): An aging Sherlock (Ian McKellen) marshals the forces of his diminishing mind to solve one last case.
“Southpaw” (July 24): A washed-up boxer (Forest Whitaker) takes a struggling fighter (Jake Gyllenhaal) under his wing.
“Paper Towns” (July 24): When the girl next door (Cara Delevingne) goes missing, a high school senior (Nat Wolff) and his friends set out on an adventure to find her in this tale adapted from the novel by John Green (“The Fault in Our Stars”).
“Vacation” (July 29): The “Holiday Road” beckons once again as Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) packs up his wife (Christina Applegate) and kids and embarks on a cross-country road trip to Wally World, with a stop to see Clark (Chevy Chase) and Ellen (Beverly D’Angelo) along the way.
“Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation” (July 31): With the IMF still disbanded, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team (Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) battle a network of special agents.
