This week’s 5 best bets for dining in Las Vegas
Date night
Las Vegas’ own Atomic! Burger is headlining the World Burger Tour at the Hard Rock Cafe through June 30. It’s a patty topped with Atomic beer-battered peppers, pepperjack cheese, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, garlic chipotle ketchup and chipotle mayo, and it’s being featured with burgers from other Hard Rock locations, such as the English Breakfast Burger and the Tandoori Chicken Burger. They’re all available at the cafes at the Hard Rock Hotel and at 3771 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
Something new
Du-Par’s, the longtime landmark at the Los Angeles Farmers Market that’s had an offshoot for several years at the historic Golden Gate in downtown Las Vegas, moves to the suburbs with a new location at the Suncoast. The menu features all of the Du-Par’s favorites such as fluffy golden pancakes, freshly squeezed juices and made-from-scratch soups, gravies, salad dressings and pies. It’s open 24/7.
Family fun
Put the kids to work cleaning out the pantry and teach them to help the less fortunate as well: The National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive will be Saturday in a neighborhood near you. To help out, pack nonperishable food items in a bag or two and leave them by your mailbox; your carrier will pick them up. All donated food will remain in Southern Nevada. Or to make a financial donation, go to stampyourgood.com.
Solo trip
Cinco de Mayo may be over, but you still can celebrate with the Chicken de Mayo at Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken in Downtown Summerlin. The restaurant’s sandwich of the month, it’s layered with shredded lettuce, guacamole-mayo, salsa, crunchy chicken nachos and pickled peppers and is $8.50 through the end of the month.
For friends
Here’s a whole weekend’s worth of opportunities to eat well while doing good — Taste of Town Square, Friday and Saturday. Friday brings the Social Dinner from 7 to 10 p.m., where participants will share a four-course dinner prepared by Town Square restaurants at a communal table under the stars; it’s $75, for those 21 and older. At Saturday’s Backyard BBQ from noon to 4 p.m., food from Pot Liquor CAS, Killer Shrimp, Miller’s Ale House and Game Works will be served up with a beer garden, lawn games and live music; it’s $10 to $35 and open to all ages. Saturday’s Tour de Fork will be a family-friendly festival of small bites from 10 Town Square restaurants, along with a beer garden, live music and children’s activities. And Saturday night’s event from 7 to 9 p.m. will include mixology demonstrations and sampling; it’s $15 to $45, 21 and older. Twenty-five percent of proceeds from all events will go to Nevada Public Radio, HomeAid Southern Nevada and New Vista Community.
