Bunkhouse reopening with a bang

The Bunkhouse is back, and the small club is returning with some big names.

The venerable downtown music venue, which reopens Aug. 25 after closing last summer for renovation, has officially announced its first batch of shows.

Kicking off opening night will be guitar-heavy indie rockers Built to Spill on Aug. 25.

On Sept. 15, The Breeders will return to town for the first time in more than five yeas, followed by R&B-influenced singer Allen Stone on Sept. 27, former Husker Du/Sugar frontman Bob Mould on Sept. 30 and electro hip-hop DJ-producer RJD2 on Nov. 21.

Originally opened in the early ’50s, the Bunkhouse later became an incubator for Vegas indie rock bands and smaller touring national acts before undergoing its face-lift, which includes a new ceiling and exterior wall as well as a new kitchen, stage and sound system.

There will also be outdoor seating and a pick-up window for food and drinks.

The club also has been lengthened, which enables it to host the kind of bigger acts that its initial lineup is loaded with.

The complete fall music schedule will be announced Aug. 1.
