Nevada is apparently one of the most pizza-friendly states — MAP

You probably think of Chicago or New York City when you think about the best places for pizza. According to a new study by the real estate website Estately, Nevada should be on your pizza radar, too.

After determining which states had the most pizza places per capita, Estately determined and ranked the states that would be the most ideal for pizza lovers to reside.

Based on the findings, pizza lovers should probably avoid living in the South, as three of the five least pizza-enthusiastic states are there — Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi.

Along with states in the Northeast, Nevada was among the top five states that are most enthusiastic about pizza.

With 1,553 establishments serving pizza — one for every 1,210 people in the state — West Virginia was found to be the state that would be most desirable for pizza lovers to call home, according to Estately. After West Virginia, the top five was comprised of Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio and Nevada.

Beyond identifying which states had the most pizza outlets, the site also included some interesting state-specific facts about pizza.

  • Michigan, home to Domino's, wasn't among the top states that favored pizza. Nor was the origin of Pizza Hut, which is Kansas.
  • Although residents of Rhode Island Google search "pizza" more than any other state, Californians search for "gluten-free pizza" more than anyone else.
  • Colorado and Washington state search "pizza delivery"  far more than any other state, whereas Wisconsin searches for "frozen pizza" the most.
