This week’s 5 best bets for dining in Las Vegas
Something new
Does this look like a hot mess? Well, we’re not sure about the mess part, but The Demonio de Vaquero Chilaquiles Spicy Challenge at Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace definitely is hot, with ingredients that include house-made Screamin’ Demon Chile Oil, made from both Bhut Jolokia and Trinidad Scorpion peppers, two of the hottest. The dish, available through the end of August, is $21, but you get it free if you can eat it within 10 minutes and wait 10 more minutes before consuming anything else.
Family fun
The whole family can take part in the Summer Fling, the August sandwich of the month at Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken in Downtown Summerlin. It’s fried chicken stacked with mozzarella, heirloom tomatoes and basil and drizzled with a sweet balsamic mayo, and it’s $8.95 through Aug. 31.
Solo trip
Sneak off one afternoon this month for the Drew Barrymore-designed Strawberry Shortcake cupcake at Sprinkles at The Linq, and you can help United Friends of the Children. Sprinkles will donate 100 percent of sales proceeds up to $50,000 to the organization, with a minimum donation of $25,000.
Date night
If you’re planning on seeing “The Sound of Music” at The Smith Center before it closes Sunday, you can extend the experience by starting with a themed dinner at Triple George Grill, 201 N. Third St. The a la carte menu of eight dishes and a cocktail includes such selections as The Lonely Goatherd salad and Von Trapp wienerschnitzel with spaetzle and bacon-mushroom gravy.
For friends
Do your friends a favor and get together Friday for $1 petite filet mignon sandwiches at Morton’s The Steakhouse, 400 E. Flamingo Road. The sandwiches, which are being served in honor of National Filet Mignon Day, will be available in the bar area from 4 to 10 p.m.
