Tracy Morgan in town to ‘water the roots’ of his stand-up comedy

Though “30 Rock” ended in terms of new episodes, channel-zappers know it lives on every night. So Tracy Morgan continues the ongoing job of distancing his real self from the TV Tracy.

Morgan had a new stand-up special, “Tracy Morgan: Bona Fide,” debut on Comedy Central this week, and he performs Friday at Treasure Island.

“Characters that I do on TV have nothing to do with my stand-up. My stand-up is personal. My stand-up is mine,” Morgan explained in 2010. “Sometimes, people expect these characters I do, and they’re disappointed. But when I do stand-up, I’m talking about my experiences.

“Tracy Jordan has the same energy as Tracy Morgan, but no, I’m nothing like that character. I’m not going to run down the street in my underwear with my light saber.”

Good to know.

“Whenever I have a chance to get back to my roots of comedy, I love to do that,” he also said a few years ago. “You have to water the roots, you know?”
