Mitzi Gaynor ready to ‘Razzle Dazzle!’
Mitzi Gaynor is a brave performer, and not just when she climbs up on that piano.
The 80-year-old veteran of film and stage was known for the quintessentially Vegas showroom act of the 1970s - think chorus boys in sequins and top hats - and now returns to show us the right way to do this career-retrospective thing.
Gaynor offers a Sam's Town encore on Saturday of "Razzle Dazzle! My Life Behind the Sequins," which she performed at The Orleans last fall.
"Betcha never thought you'd see these legs again," she joked to the crowd about the famous gams making their Las Vegas comeback after a 30-plus-year absence.
Instead of duplicating the old format and risking proof that you can't go home again (can you say Ann-Margret?), Gaynor wisely opted to stitch the musical numbers into a autobiography that played like a candid chat from the stage.
But fear not, there will be a sailor suit. Why bother at all if she doesn't do "Honey Bun" from "South Pacific"?
