Fire spices up water show ‘Le Reve’ — PHOTOS

Fire and water can mix if it’s all part of a dream, or part of the continuing evolution of “Le Reve.”

A new $3 million sequence involving fire shooters and water scrims that become projection surfaces debuts Monday in the Wynn Las Vegas aquatic production show.

The four-minute sequence will come just before the show’s existing finale. Audiences will see 16 fire shooters as well as water cannons firing more than 100 feet into the air.

Any similarities to Bellagio’s outdoor water show are perhaps-not-so-coincidental. The Bellagio fountains were also a Steve Wynn creation, before corporate changes caused Wynn to leave the Bellagio behind and build the hotel that now bears his name.

“Le Reve” opened in 2005 with too much in common with the Bellagio’s “O,” but creators have worked ever since to establish a more distinct aesthetic and identity.

The company WET developed the new sequence that casino officials say was 18 months in the making, and involves 172 high-powered fountains and shooters, and 120 individual LED lighting fixtures.
