Fine feats of athleticism, on four feet
It’s like the Olympics for dogs, only (hopefully) without the doping allegations.
For the first time, the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge is coming to the Rio, 3700 W. Flamingo Road, this weekend.
Dogs will compete in events including dog diving, freestyle flying disc, head-to-head weave poles, agility and Jack Russell hurdle racing.
We’re not sure whether that last one involves Jack Russells jumping over hurdles or other dogs hurdling Jack Russells. Either way sounds adorable.
Local dogs can earn the right to compete in the dog diving and freestyle flying disc competitions through a qualifying round on Friday. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday, with qualifiers starting at 10:30 a.m.
Doors open at 10 a.m. Saturday, with the main event set to begin at 11 a.m. Admission is free.
