Eagles to rock at Sphere next year
Don Henley predicted on Saturday night the Eagles would continue their sold-out Sphere residency into next year.
The band co-founder is a reliable source.
The Eagles have announced they are extending their series Jan. 23, 24, 30 and 31. This is due to “overwhelming demand,” but it’s nothing Sphere can’t handle (On-sale is 10 a.m. Pacific time Sept. 19 at eagles.com.)
Henley took a break from the stage over the weekend to break the news.
“So in about, a couple days, on Sept. 8, you’ll hear an announcement about tickets for January,” Henley said as the crowd cheered. “You wanna keep hearing these songs we’ll be d—- happy to play them for you … Not only are we glad to be here these days, we’re glad to be pretty much anywhere.”
The band’s current run is Friday and Saturday, continuing Oct. 3, Oct. 4, Oct. 10, Oct. 11, Oct. 31, Nov. 1, Nov. 7, and Nov. 8. With the four new dates, the total number of Sphere shows balloons to 48.
Consider it an open-ended engagement. Sphere Entertainment Chairman and CEO James Dolan predicted in July 2024 the Eagles would add dates during their residency.
“The Eagles, first off, are selling like hotcakes,” the exec said. “So the likelihood is they will extend. But that’s up to them. They have to decide that. Look, they can play as long as they want.”
During a chat at “The Wizard of Oz” premiere, Dolan confirmed an Eagles concert movie has been captured at Sphere. That info was imparted in this column in March.
Headliners at Bulbous Wonder rotating with the Eagles are Zac Brown Band (six shows through Dec. 5-Jan. 10), and Backstreet Boys (returning for 14 shows Dec. 26-Feb. 15).
The Insomniac-Tomorrowland EDM production Unity is back Sept. 19 with DJ Snake headlining. That series runs through Oct. 18, the first and only partnership between these mammoth nightlife companies. The U2 concert movie, and “Postcard from Earth” are temporarily benched as “Wizard” runs its daily schedule.
