Dillen’s Family Ice Cream
5960 Losee Road, 610-504-2327
Infused with a ’50s flair and the at-home dining experience of an old-fashioned ice cream parlor, Dillen’s Family Ice Cream brings families together to indulge in the classic cold treat. The shop is owned by Paul “Dillen” Dillenbeck and his wife, Pam, and serves unique flavors such as Circus Animal Cookie, Red Velvet Cake, Bubble Gum, Coconut Pineapple and Banana Nut. Before making their selection, patrons are encouraged to sample any flavor. Ice cream scoops are served inside cups, or you can select a cake or sugar cone ($1.49 to $4.69). There are also homemade waffle cones and bowls, including dark chocolate-dipped and milk chocolate-dipped with rainbow sprinkles. Sundaes start at $4.29 and include one wet topping, whipped cream and a cherry. No ice cream parlor would be compete without banana splits ($6.99), served with three scoops of ice cream, three wet toppings, whipped cream and a cherry. In addition, Belgian waffle or cookie ice cream sandwiches ($3.29), milkshakes ($4.99), soda floats ($3.99) and shaved ice ($1.49-$2.49) are also sold. Mini scoop samplers are mixed and matched at four mini scoops for $3.79 or six mini scoops for $4.79. The family-friendly shop is equipped with adult- and kid-sized tables, and a large chalkboard encourages people to “express themselves” by drawing whatever comes to mind. In addition, every month the ice cream parlor features specials such as mother-son/father-daughter date nights (25 percent off the entire order), Mad Hat Wednesday (buy two, get one free for those who wear a crazy hat) and Throwback Thursday (15 percent discount for those who bring an old photo of themselves). The husband-and-wife team enjoys talking to customers and entertaining children. Dillen’s Family Ice Cream is open from noon to 9 p.m. daily.
