View Dining Pick of the Week: CREAM

CREAM

Downtown Summerlin, 1980 Festival Plaza Drive, Suite 165, 702-272-0072

Step inside CREAM, and you’ll find yourself inhaling the heady aroma of baking cookies. It’s a no-brainer when your name stands for “Cookies Rule Everything Around Me.” The main attraction here is the ice cream sandwich, but throw out your been-there, done-that expectations — these aren’t the rectangular, rock-hard ice cream sandwiches pumped out of some factory. CREAM bakes its soft cookies all day (choices include Lemon Heaven, red velvet, chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nut, oatmeal raisin and butter sugar) and then packs the ice cream in between by hand. It has a three-step ordering system: first, choose your cookies (you can mix flavors, choosing a different one for the top and bottom of your sandwich), then your ice cream, and finally, add toppings (chocolate chips, chocolate or caramel sauces, gummy bears, Snickers, cherries, Oreo cookies, peanuts, coconut and M&Ms). Ice cream flavors aren’t average here, either, with choices such as Banana Walnut Fudge Chocoholic, Cinnamon Chill, Cup of Joe, Peanut Butter Twist and green tea. Three flavor choices are soy-free. As the seasons change, so will some of the ice cream flavors, so expect to see pumpkin and eggnog offered during the fall and winter holidays. Besides the ice cream sandwiches, you can also order a dessert taco, probably the most decadent taco you’ll ever consume, with three scoops of ice cream (again, mixing and matching flavors is encouraged) heaped with toppings and packed into a fresh waffle shell. Fun Taco Tuesdays offer $1 off the regular price. And no ice cream shop would be complete without milkshakes, malts and floats. If you’re tempted to snap a shot of your ice cream creation for social media, you won’t be alone: A screen near the checkout shows what CREAM photos people are posting online. Ice cream sandwiches are $3.99. CREAM is open from 10 a.m. 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
