Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with these specials

Want to make Cinco de Mayo extra special? Here are five of our top picks for where to celebrate:

At China Poblano at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 877-893-2003 or www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com), chef Jose Andres has planned food specials to be served May 1-5. They are: Ceviche de Peje-Sol, $14; Taco de Camarones Enchipotlada, $8; Empanadas de Pescado, $15; Costilla de Res, $16; and house-made paletas, $6. Cocktail specials are Tequila Stinger, $16; Cielo Rojo, $16; Michelada Millonario, $13; and Michelada con Cerveza Obscura, $12. Share the Cinco de Mayo password and you can get a free paleta.

The Commissary Latin Kitchen at the Downtown Grand (206 N. Third St.; 702-719-5311 or www.richardsandoval.com) is offering all-you-can-eat tacos and unlimited tequila drinks for $15 per person, and $4 tequila shots or drinks and $2 tacos beginning at 11 a.m. May 5. Beginning at 4 p.m., premium tequila will be $4, and there will be a live mariachi band from 6 to 9 p.m.

Go to Hecho en Vegas at the MGM Grand (3799 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 702-891-3200 or www.mgmgrand.com) at 2 p.m. May 5 for interactive demonstrations followed by a menu of Chiles en Nogada, Lamb Barbacoa Bandera and Bandera Bomba, with tequila pairings, for $75.

Rumor has it that the margarita was created at the original Ensenada location of Hussong’s Cantina (The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 702-632-6450 or www.hussongslasvegas.com), so celebrate with $36 Corona Light beer towers and $20 buckets of Corona through May 5. On May 5, specials include $5 Puebla-style guacamole and $5 Sauza Bandera shots, and Pee Wee Herman will lead the Tequila Dance at 7 p.m.

At Tacos & Tequila at the Luxor (3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South; 702-262-5225 or www.luxor.com), specials from 6 to 9 p.m. on May 5 will include Fries de Mayo with carne asada, carnitas and chicken; Great Balls of Fire, Mexican meatballs on a skewer; Los Tres Amigos, poblano, chicken and barbacoa taquitos; and Hottie Tamalie!, chicken, vegetable and barbacoa tamales, $10 each. El Jimador frozen margaritas, El Jimador tequila shots and Dos Equis beer bottles will be $5 and a shot of El Jimador tequila and bottle of Dos Equis beer $10.
