PDQ, Vegas PBS to host Family Fundraising Nights

PDQ and Vegas PBS are partnering to host monthly fundraising nights beginning Aug. 4 to help veterans and bolster services for the deaf and blind.

PDQ's two Las Vegas Valley locations — 3737 W. Craig Road in North Las Vegas and 3010 W. Sahara Ave. — each plan to host one fundraising night per month, with one benefiting the Vegas PBS Workforce Training and Economic Development program for veterans, which helps them connect to educational services, military-friendly employment opportunities and other programs, and the other benefiting the Vegas PBS Described and Captioned Media Center, which provides resources for the blind and visually impaired and the deaf and hard of hearing and their families.

During these nights, PDQ plans to donate a percentage of sales generated by the charity’€™s supporters back to the organization. The Family Fundraising Nights to benefit veterans are planned from 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 4 and the first Friday of the month through December at the North Las Vegas location. Family nights to benefit the Described and Captioned Media Center are planned from 4 to 9 p.m. Aug. 25 and the last Friday of every month through December at the Sahara Avenue location. Ri Ra Las Vegas to celebrate International Beer day Aug. 6

Ri Ra Las Vegas at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, 3930 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans to host its annual #RiRaBeerDay celebration in honor of International Beer Day from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 6. Attendees can enjoy a free pint of Guinness and free appetizers. The first 15 guests to arrive also will receive a free beer flight. Raffle prizes are planned throughout the evening.

The Boot Scootin'€™ Benefit is planned for Aug. 15 to benefit HELP of Southern Nevada at Gilley's in Treasure Island on the Strip. The event is set to include line dance lessons, food and drink specials and $10 mechanical bull rides, with $5 being donated to the nonprofit.

'Top Chef Masters' alumni to reunite Aug. 19 for Border Grill dinner

Border Grill chefs/owners Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger plan to host fellow "Top Chef Masters" alumni in the Border Grill kitchen at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, for a special Top Chef Masters Reunion Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19.

Guest chefs set to participate include Hugh Acheson and Rick Moonen. Cocktails by "The Modern Mixologist" Tony Abou-Ganim also are planned. A cocktail reception is scheduled to be followed by a panel discussion and dinner.

The cost is $150, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program.

Panevino Italian Grille plans Southern Italy wine dinner for Aug. 27

Panevino Italian Grille, 246 Via Antonio Ave., plans to host the second installment of its quarterly wine dinner series at 7 p.m. Aug. 27. The four-course tasting menu will feature Italian wines from Campania, Basilicata, Calabria and Sicilia.

Mercadito to mark first anniversary with limited menu items through August

A new taco, Surf & Turf ($4 each), will feature ribeye, tempura lemon shrimp and asparagus/cauliflower chipotle hash. A special anniversary cocktail, Old Fashioned Mercadito ($10), will feature muddled orange, filthy cherries, angostura bitters and Mercadito'€™s Herradura Double Barrel Reposado Tequila. Save bottle caps to help veterans

Through Aug. 31, the Bonanza Beverage Co., on behalf of The Miller Brewing Co., and O'Sheas Casino at The Linq on the Strip, will donate 10 cents for every $2 Miller High Life bottle cap collected to Goodwill of Southern Nevada'€™s Veteran Integration Program. To participate, legal-age consumers can bring their bottle caps to O'Sheas or send saved bottle caps to Bonanza Beverage Co. at 6333 Ensworth St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

Goodwill's VIP provides no-cost job placement and training opportunities to veterans and their immediate family members, plus veteran employment specialists who offer peer-to-peer assistance. Proceeds from the collected caps will go directly to helping empower veterans and their families with the tools they need to transition from military to civilian life and find employment. Edge Steakhouse opens at Westgate Las Vegas

Edge Steakhouse was set to open July 28 in the Westgate Las Vegas, 3000 Paradise Road. The menu features aged prime steaks, Snake River Farm Wagyu beef, fresh fish and seafood, and more than 12 other specialties. It also provides a variety of tableside dining experiences, including a fresh seafood tower, a tableside-prepared Caesar salad and an array of micro-desserts.

Duckhorn wine dinner set at T-Bones Chophouse

Dunkin' Donuts collecting bottled water for Salvation Army

Mercadito to host cooking demo Aug. 6

Mercadito at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd., plans to offer a Cooking Demo Mondays session Aug. 6. The theme is Ode to the Avocado. Chefs will demonstrate their skills as guests drink and dine.

Demonstrations are $45 per person, which includes a five-course meal with cocktails, question-and-answer session and recipes. Each event is set to begin at 6 p.m., with space limited to 30 to 40 people.

Chef Rodelio Aglibot, known as The Food Buddha, has created the The Food Buddha'€™s Pastrami Kung Pao Style Taco to be featured through July for Share our Strength'€™s Tacos for Strength campaign. The taco features diced pastrami, red bell peppers, white onions and sliced scallions, seasoned and caramelized with Kung Pao sauce and topped with crushed roasted peanuts and julienne celery leaves on a flour tortilla. Desert Hops Beer Festival to return Aug. 22

Tickets are on sale for the Desert Hops beer festival, which is set to return to Boulevard Pool at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd. South, at 9 p.m. Aug. 22. It will highlight 150 beers from around the world and feature new selections from Nevada brewers.

Musical entertainment, unlimited beer samples and tastes of multicultural food offerings are planned. Food and wine event set for Sept. 12 and 13

The Food & Wine Festival is scheduled for Sept. 12 and 13 at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd.

The grand tasting is set from 8 to 11 p.m. Sept 12 poolside. Tickets are $100 to $150. An after-party is slated from midnight to 2 a.m. at Hearthstone. Tickets are $85.

South Point announces summer meal deals

Don Vito'€™s and Silverado Steakhouse at the South Point, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South, are offering Summer Meal Deals featuring prix fixe menus through Aug. 27. The custom, multi-course menus are available from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and 9 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The three-course meal at Don Vito'€™s is $19 and includes entree choices of fettucine Alfredo, baked penne pasta or chicken manicotti.

The three-course meal at Silverado Steakhouse is $29 and includes entree choices of 6-ounce filet mignon, chicken Francaise or filet of salmon.

Ferraro'€™s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar, 4480 Paradise Road, has new seasonal menus for summer and is offering a prix fixe dinner option featuring a new family-style menu.

The family-style menu is available during dinner hours and offers three courses and a side dish.
