8 places to celebrate National Margarita Day in Vegas today

As these things tend to go, the origin of the margarita is lost to the ages. Hussong's Cantina, which opened in Ensenada, Mexico, in 1892 and has two outlets in Las Vegas, says the drink was created at its flagship in 1941 by Don Carlos Orozco. Smithsonian magazine says Carlos "Danny" Herrera dreamed up the margarita at his Rancho La Gloria restaurant in Tijuana 1938 in an effort to make tequila more palatable for a customer who was said to be allergic to all other kinds of liquor.

All that really matters is that Monday is National Margarita Day, and Las Vegas-area restaurants and bars will be celebrating accordingly. And here are eight places that are offering special deals on the drink.

Cabo Wabo Cantina, Miracle Mile Shops, 3663 Las Vegas Blvd. South: $5 frozen margaritas (classic, strawberry and more) all day Monday at the daiquiri bar.

Cantina Laredo, Tivoli Village, 430 S. Rampart Blvd.: Cabo Flip margarita, made with Cabo Wabo Reposado and Grand Marnier on the rocks or frozen and topped with tequila-filled lime boat, $7 (originally $12.75) Monday.

El Cortez, 600 Fremont St.: $5 strawberry margaritas at all casino bars through Feb. 29.

Hussong's Cantina, The Shoppes at Mandalay Place, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, and 740 S. Rampart Blvd.: Buy one original margarita (2 ounces of 100-percent blue agave tequila with lime and agave nectar) and get one free, all day Monday.

On the Border, 5630 Centennial Center Blvd.: 12-ounce house margarita, frozen or on the rocks, $2 all day Monday.

The Salted Lime, Aliante Casino + Hotel, 7300 N. Aliante Parkway, North Las Vegas: House margarita, $2.22 on Monday.

Taco & Tequila, Luxor, 3900 Las Vegsa Blvd. South: Buy one house margarita with Jose Cuervo Reposado and Grand Marnier for $12 on Monday, post a photo of you and it on your Instagram profile (tag Tacos & Tequila), show the post to your server and get another house margarita free.

Tony Roma's, Fremont Hotel, 200 Fremont St.: Classic Romarita, made with Sauza tequila and Cointreau, $2.22 on Monday.
