Kelly Clinton bringing freckles to Suncoast
They didn't really plan it this way, but Kelly Clinton seems to be following the same path as that guy she's married to.
Clint Holmes recently used his debut as the anchor of The Smith Center's cabaret series to fine tune a show for a New York cabaret. Now it's Clinton who is breaking in "Freckled for Life" at the Suncoast on Saturday and Sunday, before it becomes "Freckles and 80-Year-Old Bones" at New York's Metropolitan Room May 7-11.
The Suncoast version adds "a few bells and whistles because it's a big showroom," Clinton says, including singer Bill Fayne. But it's still "my story, told through music and humor."
Clinton has lived in Las Vegas since she was a teenager and attended Clark High School. But her biggest influence wasn't on the Strip. It was Carol Burnett on TV. "That's a big part of my story. I watched her and vowed that's what I was going to do. Sing, dance and do sketch comedy."
Throw in celebrity impressions, original characters a la Lily Tomlin - one is an older male Italian trumpet player - and some original songs such as "The PMS Blues," and there is still room in there somewhere to talk about freckles.
