You’ll never believe which steamy book is about to smack Vegas’ rump

Just in time for Valentine’s Day — and to ride the publicity of the Feb. 13 release of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” movie — a cabaret-musical spoof of the campy best-seller will smack down at Bally’s.

“50 Shades! The Parody” opens Feb. 3 in the Windows Showroom at Bally’s, the former buffet that is now leased to a third-party operator, Ken Walker. It plans an indefinite run with a local cast.

The cozy venue also is home to “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding” and “Country Superstars.” The latter will give up its 8 p.m. time slot to make room for the new venture. Walker said it’s still to be determined whether “Superstars” will close or move to an afternoon time slot.

The same room hosted “Divorce Party,” another cabaret musical aimed at women, to disappointing results earlier this year. This one, however, has a better-funded producer in Base Entertainment.

The “50 Shades” parody is a shorter and retitled version of “50 Shades! The Musical,” which played one night at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts last June. A different show, “Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody,” had a limited run at the Golden Nugget last year.

The unauthorized spoof was created by members of the Chicago Improv Troupe Baby Wants Candy. It uses the framing device of a women’s book club to spoof the “Fifty Shades” phenomenon.

“We benefit very much, because the book — I want to be very kind to them — some parts are not as well-written as you might expect,” Al Samuels, director and head writer, told the Review-Journal last summer.
