Ticket sales fizzled for Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s final fight

With ticket sales lagging for what was billed as the last fight of Floyd Mayweather Jr., MGM Resorts International stepped in with an offer of two tickets as part of a room package.

MGM Resorts pushed out a mass email listing of all the room rates at its 11 Las Vegas properties. A source said she signed up for player's card last month and received the package offer.

They ranged from a room rate high of $1075 at Bellagio to $675 at Excalibur. Two fight tickets were offered with every room package.

Attendance for the fight was announced at 13,395, well below the usual turnout for a Mayweather fight. Mayweather extended his unbeaten record to 49-0 with a unanimous 12-round decision over an outmatched Andre Berto.

Media reports were skeptical of how many fans actually paid for tickets to Mayweather's retirement fight.

Another Magnum miracle

Las Vegas public relations executive Melissa Warren made her first trip to a BYU home game on Saturday to support her nephew, BYU freshman sensation Tanner Mangum.

It was worth the trip and the wait for Warren, who had opted to attend the University of Utah while other family members attended BYU.

Last week, Mangum came off the bench to shock Nebraska with a 42-yard Hail Mary miracle to Mitch Mathews for a 33-28 win.

Mangum delivered another stunner on Saturday against 20th-ranked Boise State. With less than a minute left and BYU trailing by a field goal, Mangum heaved a bomb to wide receiver Mitchell Juergens for a 35-yard touchdown play in the unranked Cougars' 35-24 win. BYU tacked on another touchdown on a a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown.

"It was nuts," said Warren, who had joked here last week that she might have to return to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints while Mangum is at BYU.

She is managing partner of the Faiss Foley Warren public relations firm.

Mangum is the son of Warren's brother, Michael, and his wife, Karen.

I told Warren maybe she should start practicing the Heisman Trophy pose for the family portrait.
