DJ Alesso answers questions before EDC
On the cusp of the kick-off of Electric Daisy Carnival, I emailed pertinent questions to Swedish dance-music producer and DJ Alesso.
I didn’t successfully entice him to divulge much, as he prepares to perform Saturday at EDC and then at Light nightclub in Mandalay Bay.
But I did ask fun questions of Alesso, 23, whose full name is Alessandro Lindblad. He has a new album, “Forever.”
1. Since you use your real name as an entertainer, do you ever call your comrades by their stage names? What would happen if you called Nick van de Wall “Afrojack,” or Tim Bergling “Avicci?” Would they laugh or start a fight? Or does that happen at parties already?
Alesso: No, some of these guys have been my friends for years. So it never really slips up that I call them by their stage names and if I ever did I’m sure we would just laugh about it.
2. Who do you imagine in your mind when you write and produce your emotional, melodic, arena, euphoric house music? Do you picture audiences in clubs or arenas? Or do you imagine playing it for friends, or romantic interests, or yourself?
Alesso: I produced most of this album while I was traveling. Most of the time it’s been on the road, in different hotel rooms, aeroplanes. So as you hear each track you can imagine what emotion I was feeling. “Destinations” and “Immortale” are like scores, “If It Wasn’t For You” is a love song, “Tear the Roof Up” is a club banger.
OK, everyone, have fun out there at EDC. Get your wings dirty.
