Wiz Khalifa talks benefits of purple hair, positivity, weed
Newly single Wiz Khalifa surprised his 15.4 million Twitter fans when he showed them photos of his new hair color — a vibrant, fresh purple.
Wiz — he asked me to call him Wiz — told me he plans to keep it purple for two years. Why?
Basically, he’s making a more concerted effort to make life “more fun for everybody.”
Here’s how the Wiz’s current life path happened.
Back in February, roughly the time frame when he put out the big happy-weed song and video “We Dem Boyz,” he decided to take a more hands-on approach to making fun for everybody.
“That’s why my hair’s purple,” he said in a buoyant mood. “I’m gonna rock purple for a minute. I’m gonna rock purple for at least two years.”
Wiz will perform Saturday on the big pool stage at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
“I love being in Vegas,” he said. “I like the vibe and the energy.”
He said he’s “feeling it” whenever he performs live, not just because of his own musicality but also because of the bond between him and fans.
“I just came off of an amphitheater tour with like 15,000 (seats), and now I’m doing smaller venues with 800 to 1,500,” he said.
“I love it. It’s been real intimate,” he said. “I’ve been able to re-establish a connection with my fans, not that I had lost, but a lot of people thought that wouldn’t exist anymore.”
In the wake of his public breakup with Amber Rose, Wiz has been posting incredibly positive vibes on Twitter, like, “Love all over,” “Don’t be afraid to dream,” “We belong to the world,” and “Give a random compliment today. Listen to someone else’s life story.”
I asked him where all his positivity is coming from.
“On top of me just being really happy and comfortable in my life, there’s this positive energy everywhere that I pass into, instead of tapping into the negative,” he said.
“My fans being one. My family being another one. And of course, my son. And just the fact that the sky’s the limit.”
Also, he said, it’s good to spread positive affirmations, because “Everybody needs positive reinforcement.”
“Even the most positive person, they get a little bit down, so if you hear somebody tell you something positive, it can bring you right back up.”
Wiz also tweets (@wizkhalifa) about the benefits of smoking weed. He told me, “Joints and bongs are my favorites. I don’t smoke blunts at all. Bongs are cool. They’re smoother than the pipe.”
Wiz thinks society could do a better job of educating people about the positive side of weed.
“You’re only learning the bad parts of it until you free your mind and start to open it up to other things. Then you see a whole other world of people getting cured off it and seeing how much it helps.”
I told him that Tommy Chong, just this year, told me weed helps relationships, because weed makes those irritating things that mates do seem adorable.
“Exactly,” Wiz said.
