80s rockers reuniting on stage to benefit LVA high school

Do you miss the days of Moby Grape, the music venue of the 1970s and 1980s? Musicians from that era are reuniting Jan. 23-24, with all proceeds going to the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts music program.

This will be at Tommy Rocker’s Mojave Beach Grill & Bar, 4275 Dean Martin Dr.

Bands on the bill: Fly United, The Point, Notorious Sailon, and Rozy. Admission is $40.

Oh, and videos will include images of ye olden days’ “Ripped T-shirt Night.” Seriously, 1980s, couldn’t you have had 1 percent grace?

Update: Friday’s news release on these charity shows got the name wrong of the ripped T-shirt contest. The video to be shown Friday and Saturday at Tommy Rocker’s actually will be of the “Torn T-shirt Contest.” That’s according to Steve Tichenor — owner of the old Moby Grape Cocktail Lounge, and organizer of OMG Reunion, which stands for “Original Moby Grape” Cocktail Lounge in Las Vegas. He told me Saturday that, also, there will be no admission for the events. But there will be a donation collected at the door.
