Water Cooler: Pop culture fun

Here are a few recent pop culture tidbits that happened to catch our eye.

■ The strange saga of Lonnie “Ted” Binion, Rick Tabish and Sandy Murphy inspires an independent film. If Las Vegas isn’t ground zero for depressing reality-based movies, it’s sure within shouting distance.

■ Peter Frampton destroys an audience member’s cellphone after its owner refuses requests to put it away. If only audience members had similar recourse for musicians who do gratuitously long guitar solos.

■ Henry Rollins ▶ writes an essay about how Las Vegas is shallow and vapid, apparently without ever having ventured off the Strip. We’d dismiss him as a lazy parachute journalist, but the guy never even exited the plane.
