Stoney’s Rockin’ Country welcomes cowpokes as well as city slickers
Even in a city filled with upscale nightclubs, it's nice sometimes to just pull on a pair of jeans and kick back.
And for such occasions, the countryfied vibe of Stoney's Rockin' Country, 9151 Las Vegas Blvd. South, about three miles south of Mandalay Bay, can be just the thing.
At Stoney's, the ambiance is of a Texas roadhouse where both authentic cowpokes and citified guests can feel right at home. In fact, owner Stoney Gray estimates that about half of the club's clientele is noncountry.
Guests, he adds, stop by wearing everything from hats and boots to suits to evening gowns. On a recent Saturday, the club even hosted three women, each of whom was wearing a bridal gown.
"We're kind of a big party bar," Gray says. "We don't really have one demographic. We appeal to a wide audience."
The 21,000-square-foot club's amenities include a concert-size stage, a VIP area and a 2,500-square-foot dance floor.
"We've really reached out to different genres of music, so we have a lot of everything now, country being our main staple," Gray says.
The general rule of thumb, he adds, is "the later the night, the younger the music."
By the way: City slickers needn't worry about those country-themed selections, because Stoney's offers free dance lessons daily from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Those who prefer other forms of entertainment can enjoy a four-lane bowling alley, pool tables, beer pong tables, a mechanical bull and a selection of arcade games that includes punching bags and arm wrestling machines.
Stoney's also offers a slate of concerts featuring national and international artists. (Johnny Lee and Gretchen Wilson are upcoming.)
The club's events calendar includes Thursday Ladies Nights (women drink for $1), Free Beer Fridays (free drafts with paid cover), "Shorts, Shots and Longnecks" (women wearing short shorts get in free, and the purchase of a longneck comes with a free shot) on Saturday, and Sunday "Country Underground" dance nights.
For those who overimbibe, Stoney's even offers a VIP shuttle service.
"If you have too much to drink, let us know. Or, if you need assistance going home, we're there," Gray says. "I don't want anyone drinking and driving."
Stoney's Rockin' Country is open Thursdays through Sundays. Doors open at 7 p.m. and cover is never more than $5 for locals. For more information, call 435-2855 or visit www. stoneysrockincountry.com.
