Spears joins list of celebs backing gay marriage

In a year or two, it will not be newsworthy when a famous person endorses gay marriage. It will be newsworthy when they don’t. Because human rights won. Hate lost.

But for now, it is still slightly newsworthy that Britney Spears gave a big warm welcome to a gay couple who got married here over the weekend.

According to Brian Anthony Hernandez in Mashable, David Krawsek and Woody Arenas met at Spears’ grand opening at Planet Hollywood Resort in 2013, after acquainting online. They returned Friday to get married at the hotel.

“I promise to catch spiders in the house, kiss you when you’re upset, touch your butt and buy you pizza,” Krawsek vowed in front of minister Roland August, who was the Elvis-y minister in Katy Perry’s video “Waking Up in Vegas,” Mashable reported.

After the couple kissed, a surprise video played from Spears.

“Hi, David and Woody. I’m so excited to have you back at my show where the two of you met on the first night on opening night in 2013,” Spears said, according to the report. “I’m honored to be a part of your love story. Congratulations and all the best for an amazing life together.”

Then she autographed their marriage certificate backstage in a meet-and-greet.

And just to give you a final storyline twist: Arenas is a fundraiser for a gun lobbyist in Washington, D.C.
