Six Picks: Stanley Clarke, guitar lessons, Chaplin music, ‘Frankenstein,’ blues & brews, Kim K.
Where bass is boss
Stanley Clarke has been only a degree of separation from any major name in the modern jazz era, whether he was the dutiful team player or putting his own slap-funk bass lines into the forefront. The spotlight is all his today at Santa Fe Station. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show are $33-$55; call 547-5300.

Guitar lessons
The members of progressive instrumental metallers Scale the Summit are such accomplished players that they actually give music lessons in the various cities they stop in while on tour. If you don't want to spring for the cost of a one-on-one session with one of these dudes, the price of a concert ticket will still get you a tutorial in seven- and eight-string guitar acrobatics. See Scale the Summit at 9 p.m. Wednesday at Count's Vamp'd, 6750 W. Sahara Ave. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 day of show; call 762-3391.

Composer Chaplin
You know Charlie Chaplin as a brilliant comedian - and a brilliant filmmaker. But Chaplin's equally impressive talents as a composer are on display tonight when the Henderson Symphony Orchestra performs Chaplin's musical score, accompanying a screening of Chaplin's 1936 classic "Modern Times." The music/comedy combo starts rolling at 8 p.m. at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 S. Green Valley Parkway. For tickets ($10), call 267-4849 or go online to www.HendersonLive.com.

Changing places
Sherlock Holmeses present (Benedict Cumberbatch, PBS' "Sherlock") and future (Jonny Lee Miller, CBS' "Elementary") drew raves for making the stage version of "Frankenstein" come aliiiiive. Now the play, directed by "Trainspotting's" Danny Boyle, comes to local movie theaters. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Cumberbatch portrays the creature to Miller's Victor Frankenstein. At 7 p.m. Thursday, they switch. See it at Colonnade, Orleans, Sam's Town, Santa Fe, South Point and Village Square.

Blues, brews on tap
More than 60 beers will be on tap Saturday at the annual Springs Preserve Brews and Blues Festival. The ice-cold brews will, of course, be balanced by the hot sounds of blues, with four bands headlined by Ronnie Baker Brooks of Chicago taking the stage between 3:30 and 8 p.m. Reservations aren't required, but tickets are $35, and you can get in at 3 p.m. if you buy in advance at the box office or at www.SpringsPreserve.org; they're $40 if you buy at the gate, and you don't get in until 4. The Springs Preserve is at 333 S. Valley View Blvd. and you must be 21 or older to attend.

Kim K. at Rehab
Kim Kardashian is Sunday's celebrity host at Rehab, the poolside dayclub at the Hard Rock Hotel. This is pretty interesting, since Kim used to be the queen of Vegas clubs, and Rehab used to be the Strip area's craziest dayclub. So on Sunday, Kim and Rehab combine forces, hopefully with Lucha libre-esque gusto.
