Silverton’s Sway Pool Lounge caters to those who just want to drink with friends

Even though it's only a few weeks into the dayclub/pool season, no one would blame you if you're already feeling pool party fatigue.

It takes a lot of energy to look hot while hanging out in the sun, pool dancing to live music or chilling in a cabana that costs as much as a mortgage payment. Maybe the backyard approach is in order: a lazy Sunday by the pool, a few beers and barbecue with friends. Sound good?

Alison Gramenos thought so when she came up with the idea for Bikinis and BBQ, a Sunday event at the Silverton's Sway Pool Lounge.

"It's not going to be like Bare or Liquid," says Gramenos, the Silverton's creative director. "I like going to different dayclubs trying things out, but I also like backyard barbecues, listening to good music. Bikinis and BBQ is just music, barbecue and drinking with your friends."

This summer marks the Silverton's first to host a pool party. The area was renovated last year, Gramenos says.

Six cabanas were added, the pool was redesigned and $100,000 in landscaping was installed, giving the area a tropical feel. Bikinis and BBQ is targeted to locals, especially those people who are looking for a laid-back, fun poolside scene, Gramenos says.

The pool opens at 8 a.m. with a DJ spinning music from 1 to 5 p.m. Lucille's Smokehouse Bar-B-Que will serve food poolside from 5:30 p.m. until the pool closes at 9 p.m. The Jeremy Cornwell Project will play live music through the evening. Guests can even swim up to the stage to listen, Gramenos says.

The average price of a cocktail is about $8; cabanas rent for $100 while daybeds are on a first come, first serve basis. There is no cover charge and dress code is pool attire.
