Rock in Rio: Get lost amid the jugglers, dancers and some hipster with a hula hoop
One of the benefits of Rock in Rio is that the acts on the two main stages never overlap. There’s no deciding between Coheed and Cambria or Hollywood Undead, for example.
But if you aren’t into one of the bands on each night’s bill, just wander back to the Disneyland-meets-New York-New York streets and you’ll find plenty of distractions.
In addition to the bands playing the smaller stages, be on the lookout for jugglers, caricaturists and street dancers.
There’s been a guy dressed like a member of the Queen’s Guards at Buckingham Palace and a lonely bagpiper in full Scottish regalia.
A stilt walker crossed paths with a street magician.
A dude in a track jacket and denim shorts melodically beats the back of a skillet before breakdancing next to an Elvis impersonator.
Capoeira dancers competed for attention with a cover band playing “Blackbird.”
And some hipster with a hula hoop made it hard to tell whether he was part of the entertainment or just some hipster with a hula hoop.
If none of that appeals to you, you can shop for sandals and sunglasses in the various storefronts or get an airbrush tattoo next to a make-it-yourself Slurpee truck. It’s all so isolated, you’d have no idea you’re inside a major rock festival.
Elsewhere, the Ferris wheel is up and running.
Behind the EDM stage on the other side of the 40-acre venue, you can ride in a Mercedes-Benz SUV over a bumpy mechanical hill.
Or you could just stand in the hours-long queue for the zip line.
Unlike last night, you won’t risk hypothermia while you wait.
