Revealing viewers’ views on News-3 news
Microphone -- hello, testing, can you hear us in the cheap seats? -- is on.
And it's yours.
Given healthy reader response to our April 29 call for comments on TV news -- plus limited space -- we will devote separate columns to each station, spread intermittently over the coming weeks.
Following are edited excerpts on Channel 3. Keep forwarding feedback on channels 5, 8 and 13, as well as general TV news impressions. Contact info is at the end of this column. You must provide your full name and phone number:
"I wish Channel 3 would bring back Mitch Truswell. He was head and shoulders above anyone else who does weekends." -- Linda Lamb
"If (Jim Rogers) was not (Channel 3's) owner, I doubt he would last a week as an interviewer. (Jon Ralston's) liberal bias is so evident that his 'interviews' are meaningless. Kevin (Janison) knows what he is doing and is enjoyable to watch. Jerry Brown seems to change his hair color so much we watch to see what (it) will be next. Don't even start me on (Alicia) Jacobs." -- Francis Drake
"Channel 3 is a solid, put-them-to-sleep type of broadcast. Very informative, but the reporters and anchors lack something in their approach to keep folks watching for any length of time." -- Steve Ellis
"Kevin Janison moved from 8 to 3 but unfortunately brought along his 'car-mometer.' Who cares what the temp is in his car? Different car colors with different window tints and different seats have different temperatures. Cut this pap and make sure (to include) weather throughout the nation. We who have moved from other cities want to see conditions back in our old states." -- Jim Anderson
"News-3, what happened? My family and I were avid 3-watchers. That was during Dave Courvoisier's mustache era. Nowadays, I can't stand most of the people on camera at Channel 3. (They) have the best-looking set but the most horrid graphics and boring music." -- Chase Shumway
"We want to complain about Channel 3 moving 'Jeopardy' to 7 and putting 'Face to Face' in its place. We do not watch 'Face to Face' and change the channel when Jim Rogers comes on. We don't watch interviews and could care less about people's opinions. Dana Wagner is the best all-around news/weather person on the TV." -- Richard Lindahl
"I wake up with the Wagners, they have a pretty neat format, with 'The Water Cooler.' Sue Manteris is very good, Sophia Choi is very good, Jim Snyder is very good, but I kind of miss John Fredericks in the morning with the weather." -- Peter Vitale
"Jim Rogers uses the station as his own bully pulpit, which is his right but his interviews are extremely boring. The Wagners try too hard to put on a mini-'Today Show' format." -- Nancy Williams
"(Jim) Snyder is the best news person in Las Vegas, better than people in bigger markets. We love him to death." -- Jo Crawford
"I watch (Channel 3) exclusively, but I would like to see more local stories. We often hear about some odd, small story that is not locally based. I also wish the stories could be a little longer. I understand time and advertising constraints, but sometimes the tease is longer than the story." -- Monica Kolhoss
