Record number of film permits issued by Clark County in ‘14

A record-breaking 400 film permits were issued by Clark County in 2014.

Movies, television shows and commercials were among the projects filmed at well-recognized Las Vegas locations, such as the Strip and the “Welcome” sign, according to a county statement on Tuesday.

In comparison, 343 permits were issued in 2013 and 226 were issued in 2012, the release said.

“We live in a world-famous city with great weather and iconic locations that make Clark County an ideal place to film,” Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak said in the statement.

The increase of film permits issued is a sign that the economy is improving, Sisolak said. It indicates that the film industry has potential to flourish in the valley.

The film and tourism industries are thriving again, said Kim Houser-Amaral, a freelance location manager who works with the county.

“Everybody likes to shoot on the Strip,” Houser-Amaral said. Fremont Street, Valley of Fire and Red Rock follow in shooting location popularity.

“The end products enhance the popularity and visibility of Clark County to national and international audiences,” Sisolak said.

It costs $45 to apply for a film permit in the county. Some large film projects require multiple permits, but many only need one.

Filming for “Hangover 3” required 21 film permits in 2013.
