QUICK TAKES
Job offered
Drew Peterson, the former Illinois police officer who is suspected in his wife's disappearance, has received a job offer on the TV reality show "Cathouse," filmed at the Moonlight Bunny Ranch near Reno. Brothel owner Dennis Hoff said Wednesday he invited Peterson to spend the weekend at the Bunny Ranch to discuss working there. He wants to hire Peterson to head the brothel's security detail. Peterson said he's considering the offer.
Sutherland accused
Jack McCollough of the Proenza Schouler fashion house says he was cut on the face after actor Kiefer Sutherland head-butted him at a SoHo nightclub. New York City police are investigating. McCollough says the star of Fox's "24" attacked him after an argument, a law enforcement official said. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation, said detectives intend to interview Sutherland and possibly actress Brooke Shields, who may have witnessed the incident. No arrests have been made.
Kangas stepping down
Paul Kangas, who has anchored PBS' "Nightly Business Report" for 30 years, has announced he will step down at the end of the year. The show says a new partner for co-anchor Susie Gharib will be announced in the fall. Kangas was the original anchor when the financial wrapup began airing as a local show in 1979 in Miami. It now airs on 250 PBS stations, including KLVX-TV, Channel 10. Kangas says he's not retiring and will continue to give speeches and TV commentaries and do consulting work.
Abdul better now
"American Idol" judge Paula Abdul tells Ladies Home Journal in its June issue that she overcame a 12-year addiction to painkillers when she checked herself into a resort and spa in Carlsbad, Calif., last Thanksgiving. The 46-year-old singer-dancer said she didn't like existing the way she had been. The magazine says Abdul suffered from chronic pain caused by an unusual series of accidents for years.
Think, then throw
