Musical Arts Society celebrates new season
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society will present a Handel-Haydn-Mozart Celebration to open its 47th season at 3 p.m. Sunday in Artemus Ham Hall at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, 4505 S. Maryland Parkway.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for seniors, military and handicapped, and $5 for students with proper identification. They may be purchased by calling 895-2787.
The 65-voice Musical Arts Chorus, along with the Musical Arts Orchestra and guest soloists, will perform G.F. Handel's Coronation Anthem No. 1, "Zadok the Priest," and Joseph Haydn's "Creation Mass." Soloists for "Creation Mass" include Alisa Thomason, soprano; Alissa Van Camp, mezzo-soprano; Robert Peterson, tenor; and Carnell Johnson, bass-baritone.
Guest pianist Masha Pisarenko and the Musical Arts Orchestra will perform W.A. Mozart's Piano Concerto 21 (K. 467).
Pisarenko, who has degrees from the Russian Academy of Music, has performed throughout the United States and Europe.
Thomason received degrees from the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. Van Camp studied at Eastern New Mexico University and Oklahoma City University.
Peterson graduated from UNLV, and Johnson studied at Arizona State University and UNLV.
