Moon nightclub’s retractable roof puts stars in partyers’ eyes
On a clear night, the most striking feature at Moon, the exclusive penthouse nightclub atop the Palms, is the actual moon.
That's because one of the club's signature features is a retractable roof that opens to provide a view of the nighttime sky.
"People, the first time they see it, are blown away," says Michael Fuller, vice president for The N9NE Group which, with the Palms, owns the club.
The 12,500-square-foot club, 4321 W. Flamingo Road, was conceived as "the ultimate high-end boutique nightclub," Fuller says.
Inside, Fuller says, the idea was to make Moon high-energy and fun. Contributing to that effort are such features as a dance floor fitted with LED fixtures that change colors and patterns as guests walk on them, and a computerized projection system that casts images onto walls, the ceiling, hanging curtains of glass beads or, really, anywhere else images can be cast.
In fact, Fuller says Moon boasts "more technology per square foot than any other nightclub in the entire country."
Sounds are provided courtesy of a menu of music that's apt to change from night to night, but which is built upon a base of electronica, hip-hop, rock, mashups and house, all played by a corps of resident DJs and guest DJs from all over the world.
Moon holds about 500 partyers, Fuller says, and locals specials are offered Sundays through Thursdays.
Moon opens at 11 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sundays. Cover is $20 weekdays and $40 weekends, but a VIP pass for $60 offers no-waiting access to Moon, the Playboy Club, Rain and ghostbar.
