Jonah Hill gets serious in ‘Cyrus’
Movie: "Cyrus"
When: Opening Friday at Green Valley Ranch and Village Square
Cast: John C. Reilly, Marisa Tomei, Jonah Hill, Catherine Keener
Director: Jay and Mark Duplass
The story: A recently divorced guy discovers that he has a rival for his new girlfriend's affections: her pathologically dependent son.
The buzz: This Sundance hit, from "Mumblecore" veterans -- and brothers -- Jay and Mark Duplass marks Jonah Hill's dramatic debut and the previously comedic star is "really proud of it," he noted during an interview to promote this summer's "Get Him to the Greek." Although "Cyrus" has humor, "it's very, very grounded," Hill says, citing "heartbreaking dramatic moments" in addition to more comedic scenes, which enable him to "bring an honest and real element" into his portrayal.
