Jazz quartet to perform at Reed Whipple Cultural Center

Original jazz will be performed by the Shapiro Project quartet Friday at Reed Whipple Cultural Center.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $7 and are available by phone, 229-6211, or at the center's box office, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

The music will range from straight-ahead to modal, as well as funk, Latin and contemporary jazz. Shapiro Project also plays original works composed by the band's leader, guitarist Eugene Shapiro.

The band was organized in 2000 by four University of Nevada, Las Vegas graduate students pursuing jazz studies degrees. Members, including Boris Shapiro (drums), Brian Triola (keyboards) and Marc Solis (saxophone), have more than 10 years of experience playing commercially across the United States and in Japan, Israel and Germany.

The group has released two CDs and participated in many jazz festivals. Locally, the band has performed at several hotels, and played for the Las Vegas Jazz Society, Clark County Parks and Recreation and municipalities.
