‘Hiram & Nettie’ kicks off Broadway in the Hood series
A national theater program dedicated to making a positive impact on urban communities kicks off Black History Month with the launch of the Broadway in the Hood series and a musical written by award-winning playwright Terrance Afer-Anderson .
"Hiram & Nettie," a love story of two slaves living in 1820s Georgia, will be presented by A Source of Joy Theatricals Friday through Sunday at the West Las Vegas Library, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd. The free performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Call 507-3989 for details.
Hiram, a "field" slave, is played by veteran Broadway actor Michael LeMelle and Nettie, a "house" slave, is played by local student actress Adrianna Simon.
The inaugural season also features "Reality High School -- the Musical" (April), "Five Guys Named Moe" (June) and "Annie" (September). All productions are built, cast, produced and run in urban neighborhoods across the United States.
