Here are 5 cheap music shows to check out this weekend
NATIVE INSTRUMENTS — It's surprising that Maoli hasn't become massive on this side of the Pacific yet. The Hawaiian band, which is megapopular back home in Maui, has been putting out the smoothest sounds imaginable for the better part of a decade. When it comes to reggae-inflected R&B, it just doesn't get much better than this. Catch Maoli at Brooklyn Bowl on Friday. Tickets are $12; 702-862-2695.
OFF AND RUNNING — Offset Season, a local band led by Jered Jones — whose day job is producing the "Dave, Mahoney and DK Morning Show" on KXTE-FM, 107.5 — is celebrating the release of its new four-track album, "Wired Eyes," at Vinyl at the Hard Rock Hotel on Tuesday. The show is free and starts at 8 p.m.; 702-693-5000.
ENUFF SAID — Enuff Z'Nuff has always been a little different, influenced more by melodies of the Beatles than the swagger of Aerosmith. All these years later, the outfit, led by founding member Chip Z'Nuff, still stands apart, covering songs by Prince, Nirvana and more on its latest record. Catch Enuff Z'Nuff at Count's Vamp'd this Thursday. The show is free and starts at 10 p.m.; 702-220-8849.
SNAKE CHARMER — One of the most exhilarating classic metal voices this side of Todd La Torree belongs to Kobra Paige, a fetching frontwoman whose Canadian band sounds like it's being beamed directly from the Reagan era, even though it's less than a decade old. Catch Kobra and the Lotus on Sunday at LVCS. Tickets $10-$12; 702-382-3849.
TEXAS FOREVER — Many bands have no self-awareness when it comes to assessing their sound, but Texas Hippie Coalition is not one of those acts: "It's like Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top had a child, and Pantera ended up raising it," frontman Big Dad Ritch precisely offers in the act's bio. Catch THC on Saturday at Count's Vamp'd. Tickets $10-$15; 702-220-8849.
