Faberge exhibit to open at Bellagio gallery in November

An extraordinary — or should that be egg-straordinary? — exhibit showcasing rare Faberge eggs will open at Bellagio’s Gallery of Fine Art Nov. 14, replacing the current “Painting Women: Works From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.”

The Faberge show — organized in partnership with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts — will feature 238 rare Faberge artifacts, part of the largest public collection of Faberge outside Russia.

“These treasured objects encompass the beauty of art while also telling one of the most powerful stories in history – the fall of the Russian imperial family,” said Tarissa Tiberti, executive director of Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art. “ ‘Faberge Revealed’ will highlight each of the distinct styles displayed in the original House of Faberge stores in St. Petersburg, Moscow and London centuries ago.”

Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the House of Faberge produced more than 150,000 objects of art, jewels and silver articles – many one of a kind, with detailed design and artistry. The exhibit also includes a small collection of “Fauxberge” objects — Faberge look-alikes once believed to be originals.

BGFA’s current exhibition “Painting Women: Works from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston” will close Oct. 17 to make way for “Faberge Revealed,” which will be on display from Nov. 14 through May 25, 2015.
