DON’T MISS IT

AARON LEWIS OF STAIND

He once cleaned hotel rooms for a living. But Aaron Lewis, singer for heavy-metal hitters Staind, is sure to clean up in a different way when he headlines the Ovation Lounge at Green Valley Ranch, 2300 Paseo Verde Parkway, at 8 p.m. today and Access Showroom at Aliante Station, 7300 Aliante Parkway, North Las Vegas, at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $44-$66; call 547-5300.

MAGICAL FOREST

Opportunity Village has extended its Magical Forest -- which usually closes Dec. 30 -- until Saturday to cover the days it closed due to inclement weather. (In other words, kids, Santa got snowed in.) Missed opportunities get made up from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. today and Saturday at Opportunity Village, 6300 W. Oakey Blvd. Admission is $9.50 for adults, $7.50 for children ages 3-11; call 259-3700.

SMASH MOUTH

Hey now, they're no longer all-stars. But Smash Mouth -- fronted by Las Vegan Steve Harwell -- still packs a rocking punch onstage. Sun-walk with them at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Silverton Pavilion, 3333 Blue Diamond Road. Tickets are $30; call 914-8557.

COLLISION COURSE SHOW

Six-and-a-half hours of local hip-hop and rock fresh from the Las Vegas streets, not filtered through ivory towers in Beverly Hills. (In other words, no one has a record deal yet.) The 11 acts include rockers Damnear Divine and Heroes in the Sky, and rappers City & TMWK and Young Havok (probably not his real name). The show starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Box Office, 1129 S. Casino Center Blvd. No. 1. Admission is $10; call 388-1515.

"THE CRANES ARE FLYING"

Kicking off its "Selections From Four Decades of Soviet Cinema" film series, the Clark County Library screens "The Cranes are Flying." The winner of the Palme d'Or at the 1958 Cannes Festival, this English-subtitled film was directed by Mikhail Kalatozov and stars Alexei Batalov and Tatiana Samoilova as star-crossed young lovers torn apart by World War II. Cranes fly at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Admission is free; call 507-3400.
