David Bowie just dropped a new single — VIDEO

Got 10 minutes to spare? If not, you might want to wait until you do and then check out the new David Bowie video, which premiered Thursday. It's quite arresting, if you haven't seen it yet. Oh, and 10 minutes — yeah, that's really just the minimum amount of time that you're going to need to screen the clip. It's going to require considerably more time to absorb and appreciate the artistry.

From the stranded space traveler scenes, to Bowie crooning in an unsettling blindfold, to the woman walking around with a wagging tail, carrying a bejeweled skull in a glass case, to the convulsive dancing, there's a lot of odd, incongruous visuals to take in. The imagery fits the bleak tone of the song, which is a noted departure from Bowie's last record, "The Next Day," which arrived a couple of years back with little warning or fanfare.

The clip is for "Blackstar" (stylized as "’˜…"), the first single from Bowie's forthcoming album, which is set to drop Jan. 8. Johan Renck — whose work you might have seen previously if you happened to catch the H&M featurette starring Lana Del Rey singing "Blue Velvet" — is the director here, and what he came up with is just as compelling.

Renck, who's also worked on clips for Beyonce, Madonna, Beach House and Chris Cornell from Soundgarden and directed a few episodes of "Breaking Bad" and "The Walking Dead," initially enlisted the iconic 68-year-old singer to contribute theme music to "The Last Panthers," a television series that the Swedish director was working on overseas. Bowie submitted "Blackstar," which then, obviously, ended up being used during the opening credits. Here the two have teamed up again for an engrossing 10-minute production that's worth watching and then watching again.
